Short Story Award ~ Finalist
I’m super excited about this. Aesthetica Magazine is a great read with a beautiful look and feel, and I’m honored to have been chosen for publication!
The story I submitted is one I wrote for my second semester portfolio during my year at the University of Edinburgh. It was inspired by a reading of Peter Pan (1904) that I did for my Fairy Tales course. Act III of the play takes place in the mermaid’s lagoon and is a very haunting, very atmospheric chapter that ends with the ominous line, “To die will be an awfully big adventure.” I couldn’t get the act out of my head, especially the end scene with Peter and Wendy. So, some time later the idea for this story came to me.
It’s just a wee little piece (as my Scot friends would say,) but it has my affection 🙂
I’ll post a link when the magazine publishes it.
Winners will be announced in December. Fingers crossed!
